HSOB / Burnside women’s final against Carlton Redcliffs was closed out successfully after the only goal of the game from Hayward left them defending a precarious 1-0 lead.
Scored midway through the first half, the second half saw Carlton Redcliffs step up their pressure into all out attack.
Midfielder Fiona Morrison was everywhere, desperately trying to conjure up an equalising goal.
Despite replacing their goalkeeper with an extra outfielder with five minutes remaining, Carlton Redcliffs could not find the goal needed to send the game to strokes.
“What got us across the line was our defensive play. The team worked really hard to hang in there,” HSOB / Burnside coach John Christensen said afterwards.
“It was good to see the clock winding down.”
Finishing another unbeaten season Christensen said was “a really great achievement”. As well as the Championship for a second successive season, this included a now 22 match long Challenge Shield defence.
